Meet DaCosta

DaCosta (b. 1993, Portugal) works with the Portuguese tile not as decoration, but as document. Fragile to the touch, permanent in time, the azulejo mirrors the societies he portrays: capable of breaking today and surviving for centuries.

Using the tradition of cobalt blue, his work addresses what is urgent now, anxiety, inequality, violence, politics, humour, dream and memory. The technique is ancient; the subject is always present. Each tile exists in tension between what we inherit and what we are losing.

Every piece is hand-painted because error is human. Placed in the street because art without access becomes object. Kept anonymous because the message must always come before the face.

DaCosta's tiles are not ornaments. They are sentences, wounds, thoughts or smiles left behind for those who pass, to recognize themselves, to be confronted, or to feel less alone. Between street and institution, DaCosta restores the tile's historical role: to communicate, record, denounce and remember.

DaCosta is not only a signature.
It is a channel, a mirror and a testimony.

If one day he disappears, the tile remains.
And that is enough.
